A Brief History

New Century Design was incorporated in 1999 by its founder, Shawn Jensen. With Shawn’s creative ability and technical knowledge, NCD quickly gained reputation in the industry for client satisfaction, turn around time, and a great end product. NCD has been successful for over two decades due to the teams’ commitment to providing the best possible service and product for their clientele.

NCD in Inglewood

In 2013, NCD moved their studio to historic Inglewood in the heart of Calgary's inner city. With its creative enamour, inspiring vibe, and easy access from anywhere in Calgary, it was the perfect location.

Our Values

New Century Design's core values include hard work, creativity, knowledge, education, empathy, mutual respect, and effective communication. We live by these principles to ensure expectations are exceeded between ourselves and those we collaborate with.

President & Principal Designer

At the Office

Shawn Jensen honed his listening and design skills through 15 years as the design manager at a major home builder in Calgary. The following 15 years were in his own design studio: New Century Design. Shawn’s approach to home design has led to the formation of NCD’s five step design process. The focus on the relationship between the home and the lifestyle of its owners stems from how well we listen to our clients. It has been said that the most basic human need, after food and shelter, is to be simply ‘understood’, which is why listening is the most important aspect of custom design and why Shawn has been so successful with his designs.

At Home

Shawn is a born and raised Calgarian. He grew up in and around familiar neighbourhoods like Fairview, Parkdale, Willow Park, and Bridgeland. He recently celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary and becoming a grandfather. Family is of the utmost importance to Shawn, and he loves the idea of the hundreds if not thousands of families that have lived and grown up in the homes he has designed.

At Play

Though a grandfather, he still thinks he's 20-something and enjoys weekly basketball, summer backpacking, fly fishing, golfing, and travelling Canada (has been to all ten provinces) and abroad. He is a big audiophile, enjoying most genres and having been to five U2 concerts and counting.
